The couple I designed and built this piece for had for many years dreamed of having a built-in library with rolling ladder. The space is large, 13+ft. wide x 9ft. tall, fitted on all four sides. The house is 120 years old and really terrific but there is some settling which made the fitting challenging. I developed a series of design drawings and we zeroed in on what they liked best with both closed cabinets with doors, a series of drawers, all with soft closed slides and hinges. . . as well as open shelving for books, records, photos and art objects. As a nice accent the center top and shelves are made of red oak stained to match the floor. A challenging piece that required a crew of five to install.
