This mantel is part of a larger project that also included an entertainment center with cabinets. That project in whole also appears on this site. The mantel and paneling were constructed of white oak solid board stock and veneers. The entertainment center was built and installed first. Precise fitting of angles were required to integrate between the mantel and entertainment center as well as getting a good fit on top of the angled face of the existing fireplace. I started with building a full size model out of scrap lumber and veneer plywood to test fit and then adjust the various sections. After that I was able to move confidently into the finished carpentry, finishing and installation. Design by Kaufman O’Neil Architects/ Evanston.
