The front porch of this vintage four square Victorian home had been closed in for many years ago. It didn’t reflect the original design of the front of the home and the owners also wanted to be able to sit out on their porch to relax and socialize. These projects always start with removing the siding, windows and doors that have been added and cover what potentially is hidden inside. In this case the original round columns, railings and one newel post were still there although in varying degrees of disrepair. The columns were in great shape as were the top and bottom rails, the balusters had to be replaced. The front steps were completely removed and new newel posts and caps were designed with an eye towards the obelisque/ beveled post that had been found inside. These are terrific projects, they totally transform the front of a home creating a much better aesthetic and adding very nice additional living space.
