This deck in the Ravenswood neighborhood is small but packed with cool details. The homeowners had an existing deck of similar size that was very old and in bad repair. They were unhappy with the design and aesthetics and wanted something that integrated with the Craftsman design of their house that incorporated a built in bench and table for outdoor dining. The steps descending into the basement presented a challenge as I couldn’t set any structural support posts in that area and also had to allow for head clearance when descending the stairs. I designed a cantilevered support with corbels under the top rail that provided solid structure and a really nice detail. (click on photos to see multiple views)
