My clients, a really talented architect and his wife, good friends for over thirty years wanted a new mantel for their vintage Prairie style home in River Forest, IL. He developed design drawings and specified the wood species and we were able to match stain to the existing woodwork in the house.I built a rough model out of 3/4″ plywood for fitting and fine tuning moving forward into the finish carpentry. The columns have a two degree mitered bevel which is a little hard to see in the photos. The piece was built and finished in the shop and then assembled and installed on-site.
