My client had a large flat screen TV wall mounted in their living room but thought it was a bit rough aesthetically and wanted a walnut post modern designed cabinet to enclose it. I worked on some prototype model development and and even with bi-fold doors they were too large to be adequately supported by pocket door hinges. My client suggested some type of panel(s) that could taken on and off and felt they would like and be able to work with that. I suggested breaking the panels into two sections that looked like faux drawers with handles/ pulls for good purchase when moving the panels on and off their fitted tracks. That’s what we cid and I began construction. The entire piece is made of solid walnut, the face/ drawer panels glued up out of seven pieces of walnut. Walnut is getting harder to get good boards on and what is available can vary widely. My hardwood supplier had some large absolutely gorgeous pieces when I made my material buy. The front looked like a big gorgeous piece of German Chocolate cake batter. Lovely wood to work with, smooth and buttery to mill. the piece was wall mounted which was the original intent with electrical/ cable components routed through the back panel. We found some simple geometric walnut pulls made in Denmark that were a perfect complement. A one of a kind piece of furniture.
